Nurburgring, Spa, Le Mans: Luminous Starting Number Foils for 24h Races
Luminous starting number plates first occured in Le Mans with Audi and Bentley LMP sports prototypes in the mid-2000s. With getting quite cheaper over the years EL-foils have become a standard at 24h and endurance races all-over the motorsport world.
The physicle principle of operation behind is the so-called electroluminescence. A photo-active material is exited by an 120V AC voltage to cold bright glow. For technical build, a thin carrier film is printed with the luminous paste. Then it is laminated between two outer transparent foils to provide meachanical stability and water proofness. To generate the AC voltage an electronic inverter is needed which converts 12V battery voltage to 120V AC.
The first white glowing photo materials where available with pink coloured base pastes only, so the starting number background showed pink when switched off. Since two years Aamgard Engineering offers third-generation EL foils based on off-white printing paste - a huge aesthetical advantage especially at exhibitions or sponsor events. The new materials of German origin are quite more effective than pastes from far-east production and offer a very homogeneous and ultra bright light appearance.
Our starting number plates are available in several standard sizes. Also we build customised foil dimensions for racing cars, pit boards, show applications or advertising boards. More info can be found on our EL-foils page.
New Electric Harnesses for the Formula Opel Lotus
Pleasing appearance, simple suspension and a powerful Opel GSI engine made Formula Vauxhall a stepstone to Formula 1 in the 1990s. About 300 of these racing cars have been build und raced worldwide. Depending on country and region, the championships and cars have been named by sistering companies Opel, Vauxhall and Lotus-Cars. So, in Germany it was the Formel Opel Lotus or in England Formula Vauxhall Lotus. Unfortunately Formula Opel wasn't exactly a cheap pleasure: Not the least by the widespread involvement of international top racing teams the costs of competing in the EFDA European Formula Opel Challenge climbed up to Formula 3 levels.
Today, the timeless beauty Formula Opel cars are raced in many club level championships. Mostly the genuine vehicle and engine electrics are still in duty. Understandably after thirty years the old wiring looms are no more the most reliable. Aamgard Engineering has build some new engine looms over the past. Maintaining the original connectors, but over-all build to race spec quality.
If you are in need for a new wiring loom for your racing car: Just give a call. Or drop an e-mail.
